HERALD SUN: Transfer station hearing draws packed house... Full Story
|
Basic Overview: |
-
The landfill on Eubanks Road will be full in a couple years.
-
A new Waste Transfer Station will have to be located somewhere.
-
A primary proposed site for a new Waste Transfer Station is at Old 86 and I-40, although it is an Economic Development District.
-
Other primary proposed sites are located on private property on Rt 54, and the current landfill site on Eubanks Road.
|
Basic Concerns: |
-
Orange County Commissioners are about to make a final decision regarding the location of this waste transfer station.
-
There has been minimal discussion regarding environmental impacts (i.e. usage of land resources in Orange County ).
-
There has been minimal discussion regarding economic impacts (i.e. tax impacts of a multi-million dollar project).
-
There are significant perceived problems with the process that is occurring toward select a final site.
|
Actions You Can Take: |
-
We need speakers for the upcoming BOCC meeting on the 21st of October! Please see the topics page for more information.
-
Write a letter to each County Commissioner! Send via email or postal ASAP so they have adequate time to read prior to their next meeting! Some stated areas of concern as idenfitifed by residents are listed below:
-
There is a community input form that needs to be submitted by 10/10/08 , that many people are having difficulty understanding.
-
(NOTE: AS OF 10/07/08 WE ARE UNSURE OF THE ROLE OF THIS FORM. HUNDREDS OF THESE FORMS HAVE ALREADY BEEN SUBMITTED AS PART OF THE PUBLIC INPUT PROCESS OUTLINED BY THE COUNTY. HOWEVER, THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS JUST ISSUED A STATEMENT THAT THIS FORM IS NO LONGER BEING USED (SEE Status and Updates).
-
WE HAVE STRONG OPINIONS THAT THE NEW STATEMENT REGARDING THIS FORM WAS A RESULT OF NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS FROM THE PUBLIC EXPRESSING CONCERN AND QUESTIONS REGARDING THE FORM. DUE TO THE CONFUSION, WE THINK IT WILL NOT HURT TO CONTINUE TO SUBMIT THIS FORM. HOWEVER, THE NEED TO WRITE LETTERS AS A FORM OF PUBLIC INPUT IS NOW EVEN MORE CRITICAL! Residents are highly encouraged to write letters regarding their concerns to the Commissioners to provide clear input!)
-
ATTEND THE COUNTY COMMISSIONER'S MEETING: Tuesday 10/21/08 5:30pm start time, BUT YOU MUST ARRIVE EARLY AND SIGN-IN TO SPEAK!
